Does Toothpaste Get Rid of Acne? - March 7th, 2011

Plenty of people swear by home remedies for acne—but do any of them actually work?

Toothpaste has been rumored to be a home remedy for acne for years. The ingredients in toothpaste actually have some strength to reduce acne, but it may not be a cure all.

Toothpaste is by no means the best treatment for acne, but it can be effective for some people. For those suffering from moderate to severe acne, toothpaste will be ineffective. Acne treatments or a dermatologist are the recommended course of action for severe acne.

Mild to moderate acne can be treated with toothpaste. Depending on the toothpaste, results may differ. Some ingredients in toothpaste may even irritate the skin.

In the event you would like to attempt to use toothpaste to erase acne, there are some suggestions for optimal results. White toothpaste typically works better, colored toothpastes typically have ingredients that are bothersome to the skin. Gels tend to be an ineffective toothpaste remedy on any acne.

Toothpaste can be considered an effective remedy for two potential reasons. First, toothpaste can be a “home-made” mask. A toothpaste mask can draw out impurities from the skin. It can also dry out the skin to reduce inflammations and acne swelling.

Toothpaste also contains menthol. This alcohol has the capability to dry out the pimple, which essentially begins to remove the pimple.

Using toothpaste as an acne remedy is actually a simple process. After thoroughly washing your hands, and the infected area, dab some toothpaste on the acne. Use a generous amount of toothpaste for maximum benefits. Allow the toothpaste to dry and absorb into the skin. Some people wash off the toothpaste after it dries, while others prefer to leave the toothpaste on overnight.

If the acne looks worse, or has spread, toothpaste may not be an effective acne remedy for you, and you should discontinue use.

How To Get Rid of Pimples - February 23rd, 2011

Like with all things, there is a right and wrong way to remove a pimple.

It may come off as a lecture, but the best approach to get rid of acne is to let the body naturally heal the infection.

In the event that leaving a pimple alone is out of the question, there are methods of popping a pimple and facilitating the removal of a blemish that help reduce inflammation and swelling. The best acne treatment usually depends on the type of acne.

Removing pimples is a process that needs to be dealt with delicately. Touching a blemish or trying to pop a pimple can aggravate the acne and cause more breakouts.

Try the following steps:

1- Wash your hands thoroughly before you touch your face.

2- Wash your face with warm water and mild soap. Scrubbing with a wash cloth can actually spread bacteria.

3- Pat your face dry softly with a clean towel.

4- Apply a topical acne-fighting treatment, with the ingredient benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, to the infection.

5- Repeat steps 1-4 until pimple disappears.

The problem with removing pimples is that it is not an overnight process, and that is frustrating. The easiest way to remove acne is to help prevent acne from appearing. There are several daily routines and diet adjustments that can help conquer acne.

Drinking a lot of water detoxifies the body. Washing your face morning and night removes bacteria and excess oil from your face. Moisturizing skin gives skin strength to fight off infections.

Although curing acne is impossible, these tips and tricks can help clear your complexion for smooth skin. Severe acne will require a dermatologist and possible prescription medication, however, these suggestions will help enhance overall health and hygiene.

How To Balance A Checkbook - February 16th, 2010

I for one am all about personal responsibility. I would rather starve for a while rather than taking food stamps, and it’s a family thing, we have too much pride sometimes for our own good. As such, we expect other people to take responsibility for their own stuff as well. This being said, my sense of responsibility for myself did not stop me from getting into credit card debt just like so many other Americans. Now this does not mean that I went in for credit card debt consolidation or worse yet went bankrupt. No, I would’ve never considered. Still, every month even though I logically had enough cash to cover my bills, I always came up short. This is when I started looking into checks unlimited.

With checks unlimited, I got checks, an easy way to control and calculate my spending. I figured it all out, and in the first month, I looked back balancing my checkbook every time I actually made a purchase, and I still overspent the first month. Big surprise right? So it wasn’t just checks unlimited that instantly made me change. But in terms of accountability, it was still there. But when I looked back over my checks and records, the numbers were exact and I definitely saw where all of my money was going.

After that, I was able to set up a better budgeting plan and take better control. I was able to really get benefits with checks unlimited by being able to see on paper what it was I was doing wrong. I started spending less on these random little $5 or $20 things, and since then, I have become more responsible. It’s not going to work unless you take action. But having checks unlimited just gives you a realistic look to see what it is that you need to do. And for me, that was enough that I didn’t actually have to spend money on a more expensive budgeting program that I would have to remember to use when I got home, which for me is not going to happen. It was something I was buying anyway, so why not.

Toothpaste As An Acne Spot Treatment - December 29th, 2009

If you are using toothpaste, you are looking to get rid of zits.  It has been commonly used as a home spot treatment, and toothpaste has been commonly effective, some swearing that by applying toothpaste, they can even get rid of a pimple overnight.  Some claim that it is the only thing to use, and it’s certainly one of the cheaper things to use.

But the question is not is it effective.  To some degree, it has obviously shown results.  The question is, is it something that you want to use?  I would say no.  The fact is that while toothpaste does reduce the size of pimples, it does this in many ways by drying out all the oils therein.  Yes, excess oil is bad.  But your skin needs certain healthy amounts of oils!  And when you dry out even one spot, you are doing more serious damage than good in this case.

The biggest problem that many find is that while toothpaste does decrease the size by eliminating all the oils causing some degree of inflammation, it leaves the skin red, irritated, even causing greater scarring.  It is inexpensive yes.  But it leaves the zit.  It leaves the major characteristics and makes many worse with the exception of that inflammation.  So you still have trouble covering it up, because the zit is not really gone.

The reason it does this is because it uses one active ingredient called triclosan.  Now triclosan is also effective at killing bacteria.  But the question always remains at what cost.  There is a reason they choose to use benzoyl peroxide over the cheaper triclosan.  Though effective, and though cheaper, it is considerably more damaging even than benzoyl peroxide.  So yes, while you feel the tingling and burning, that is not a good thing, and while the inflammation goes down, the zit is not really going away.

Is Salicylic Acid Effective - October 1st, 2009

Salicylic acid was the first ingredient of its kind really introduced to the market. It is actually a beta hydroxy acid and currently the only beta hydroxy acid for acne treatment. Other related ingredients would be alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic acid. They all essentially speaking cause the dead layers of the skin to shed away at an accelerated rate. But is salicylic acid effective?
Salicylic acid has an extremely long history, and it has been used in lower concentrations for acne as well as higher concentrations for chemical peels. But stop, before you assume that it’s harmful because it is used in a chemical peel, salicylic acid has been shown in the lower concentrations in your acne treatment to have no adverse side effects.
This being said, you have to wonder with no side effects, can salicylic acid really be that effective in the first place? Is salicylic effective in any case of acne, let alone the big ones? Yes. It was used in a severe case of herpes essentially speaking involving Dede the Treeman to peel away warts that literally came to look like warts over years of growth. Likewise, it can be used in smaller concentrations to accelerate the skin’s peeling process in acne without causing irritation or side effects.
Salicylic acid is common to say the least. But that doesn’t mean it’s useless or worthless. It results will vary between individuals. But as far as how it works, it works in that same way for every person, and this shedding process has been responsible for many finally being able to effectively get rid of their acne without causing any side effects along the way.

Making Blemishes Disappear - September 29th, 2009

If you want to make blemishes disappear, chances are you should really be looking into an aspirin mask. An aspirin mask is exactly what it sounds like.  It is essentially speaking crushed up aspirin mixed with water for a mask to put on your face.  Aspirin is a well known anti inflammatory, which means it will reduce swelling, redness, and irritation.  This will automatically help you to reduce the severity of your blemishes.

But second of all, you should actually look into the fact that making blemishes disappear with an aspirin mask is so much more than that.  It actually effectively kills off bacteria while also pulling the skin tighter and tightening pores.  This in general will help your skin to look better.  But it will also almost immediately get rid of some zits, blemishes, blackheads, etc.

All of this being said, an aspirin mask is one of the easiest things to make and the easiest things to actually make blemishes disappear.  It doesn’t get any easier than using an aspirin mask, and there are also different types.  You can crush up the uncoated aspirin pills if you want, or for that matter you can buy what’s called white willow bark, which is natural aspirin, from the store.  Either way, it will help you to effectively relax your skin, kill off bacteria, and otherwise work to actually make blemishes effectively disappear.

Lemon Juice And Acne - August 3rd, 2009

Lemon juice is quite literally the simplest treatment you can use for acne.  You can either buy lemons or they have those little lemon shaped bottles at your grocery store of pure lemon juice, usually deemed for cooking purposes.  But frankly, it can of course be used quite easily for other purposes, and really why not?  Lemons can already be found in every home.

Don’t buy lemonade.  It is often packed with sugars and preservatives among other things that won’t help your skin and could possibly hurt it.  But real lemon juice is packed instead with vitamins and minerals.  You will find very little lemon juice in lemonades.  But real lemon juice also has the virtue of antioxidants.  Antioxidants naturally kill off bacteria and free radicals, not to mention the fact that lemon juice for various reasons works as a powerful antiseptic anyway.  It has an anti bleaching effect on the skin surprisingly enough, and it can lighten acne scars and blemishes while obviously getting rid of zits.

You just have to have a light bit, and even a small bottle can last you for a while when this is placed in the fridge or otherwise.  But it will help you, and then you can simply wash it off after 10 minutes.  Obviously, don’t really get it in the eyes.  But otherwise, you are good to go.

Chinese Acne Treatment - July 27th, 2009

They have Chinese medicinal cures for everything or Ayurvedic, whatever your philosophy of choice.  Most of them fall into diet pills or otherwise.  But some have come to the conclusion that it also applies to acne.  I can see it if they were to use green tea, green tea is high in antioxidants and some have used it.  But they usually don’t publicize that as the “Chinese” acne treatment.

The Chinese believe apparently that the human blood has a temperature and toxins that cause acne in part.  Apparently some have forgotten about the fact that the western world has come to the conclusion that toxins cause acne, and most who use that concept don’t actually publicize it as a “Chinese” cure, because that’s not needed among other things.  If they do use it, it’s a marketing ploy.

For the most part, they don’t actually have ways to quickly detoxify the system.  It’s more of dietary changes such as eating low fat or non fat dairy products only, staying away from processed foods, staying away from omega-6 fatty acids specifically, etc.  Logically speaking, these foods tend to be low in bad fats that contribute to acne, high in fiber, high in vitamins and minerals, and otherwise high in elements that we do know would balance out the body and lower some incidences of acne.  So it is really a revolution?  I think not.

Egg Whites Mask - July 13th, 2009

Now a recently discovered thing for me is the egg whites mask.  It basically involves you taking egg whites and making a mask with the clear parts or the egg whites only.  You rub them onto your skin and be careful that it really sticks on the skin.  You can use it anywhere from your face to your knees and elbows, but I use it on my face really.

Anyway, it’s cheap, effective, and while it doesn’t really kill bacteria or any of that, it makes your skin more beautiful in general.  It reduces pore size, tightens skin, and prevents future acne in that way while also giving the skin a better look and appearance in general.  You leave it on for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water while gently patting it dry with a towel.  When you do all this, you give yourself better opportunities, and you can quickly improve your skin’s general chances.

Plus your skin won’t be all dried out or for that matter really oily.  It has that perfect balance between the two.  This shouldn’t be your only acne scrub or wash of course, just part of a grouping.  But it makes a good part of the kit.
