The birth control pill that has reformulated and recently changed their marketing tactics due to FTC warning, Yaz, has also been connected to the clearing of acne in addition to its obvious birth control benefits. It is meant to specifically reduce the symptoms of the severe form of acne known as PMDD, and it provides a “different” way to deal with acne.
While some women have managed acne with increased exercise, diet, exercise, extra cleanliness measures, external treatments, etc, others have found that those don’t work. Some have turned to extreme measures such as Accutane, and even on that, some have not seen the results.
Yaz claims to take a different approach, attacking acne by reducing the fluctuations of many hormones that are associated with PMDD. They are manufactured by Bayer, most commonly known for Bayer Aspirin, and they make specific claims with FDA approval. They only recently obtained FDA approval for the claim of treating adult onset acne.
So why is Yaz different? They use the regular ingredients you will find in other birth control pills. The difference is that they also use 24 days worth of active hormonal ingredients to improve the general appearance of the skin with 4 placebo pills to be used each month in balance. As with other birth control pills, some women have complained of side effects such as nausea and vomiting with Yaz, and it has not shown it to work for a number of different people.
